Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

What is RPL?

RPL stands for recognition of prior learning. RPLis the assessment of previously unrecognised skills and knowledge you may have  achieved outside the formal education and training system.

RPL assesses this unrecognised learning against the requirements of a qualification, in respect of both entry requirements and outcomes to be achieved. This means that you may not need to complete a particular module of your course because you have proven those skills already.

By removing the need for duplication of learning, RPL encourages an individual to continue upgrading their skills and knowledge through structured education and training towards formal qualifications and improved employment outcomes.

What is the process?

  1. If you feel that you have the skills and knowledge equivalent to a course we offer, a recognition process is available.  Ring the WEA on 02 42261622 to discuss your suitability.
  2. If at the preliminary stage you feel you can provide enough evidence to support RPL then you compile and submit a portfolio of evidence
  3. Your portfolio is assessed by a qualified assessor.
  4. Successful applicants will be issued with the same qualification as those who study the course
  5. Any units of competency that you can not supply evidence for can be studied individually - prices on application.

How long does it take?

Assessment of your portfolio will usually be completed in two weeks.
